Methanol, also known as methyl alcohol, amongst other names, is a chemical and the simplest alcohol, with the formula CH3OH (a methyl group linked to a hydroxyl group, often abbreviated MeOH). 1. It is one of the basic organic raw materials, which is used to manufacture a variety of organic products such as methyl chloride and dimethyl sulfate. It is also the raw material of pesticides (insecticides, acaricides) and medicine (sulfonamides, synomycin, etc.), and one of the raw materials for the synthesis of dimethyl terephthalate, methyl methacrylate and methyl acrylate. 

2. The main application field of methanol is the production of formaldehyde, which can be used to produce adhesives, mainly used in wood processing industry, followed by processing agents for molding plastics, coatings, textiles and paper.

3. Another main use of methanol is to produce acetic acid. The consumption of acetic acid accounts for about 7% of the global demand for methanol. It can produce vinyl acetate, cellulose acetate and acetate. Its demand is closely related to the demand for coatings, adhesives and textiles.
