Sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate Usage

1.Used as a dechlorination agent for bleached pulp and cotton fabrics, as a chelating agent and antioxidant in the food industry, as a detergent and disinfectant in the pharmaceutical industry.

2.It is used for dehydrochlorination of natural gas, naphtha, syngas, hydrogen and nitrogen to protect downstream catalyst from toxicity. If there is organic chlorine in the gas, it should be converted to hydrogen chloride by cobalt-molybdenum hydrogenation catalyst, and then absorbed with dechlorinating agent.

3.Used as analytical reagent, mordant and fixative.

4.It is suitable for removing chlorine from hydrogen, nitrogen, syngas, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and naphtha.

5.Photosensitive industry is used as photographic fixative. Paper industry is used as chlorine removal agent after pulp bleaching. The printing and dyeing industry is used as a dechlorination agent for cotton fabrics after bleaching. Reagent for chroma analysis and volumetric analysis of analytical chemistry. Uses:

Ammonium chloride, under the name sal ammoniac or salmiak is used as food additive under the E number E510, working as a yeast nutrient in breadmaking and as an acidifier. It is a feed supplement for cattle and an ingredient in nutritive media for yeasts and many microorganisms.

Other applications

Ammonium chloride is used in a ~5% aqueous solution to work on oil wells with clay swelling problems. Other uses include in hair shampoo, in the glue that bonds plywood, and in cleaning products. In hair shampoo, it is used as a thickening agent in ammonium-based surfactant systems such as ammonium lauryl sulfate. Ammonium chloride is used in the textile and leather industry, in dyeing, tanning, textile printing and cotton clustering. In woodworking, a solution of ammonium chloride and water, when applied to unfinished wood, will burn when subjected to a heat gun resulting in a branding iron mark without use of a branding iron. The solution can be painted onto the wood or applied with a common rubber stamp.

The powder is a white sand crystal or light yellow powder. The infusible powder is insoluble in ethanol, soluble in sodium hydroxides solution, reacts violently with water and burns.
The aqueous solution of the insurance powder is unstable in nature and has a strong reducing property, belonging to a strong reducing agent. It is easily exposed to oxygen in the air and oxidizes. At the same time, it easily absorbs moisture and degenerates, and it can seize oxygen in the air and give off a pungent sour taste.

Industry
Being water-soluble, sodium dithionite is used as a reducing agent in some industrial dyeing processes. In the case of sulfur dyes and vat dyes, an otherwise water-insoluble dye can be reduced into a water-soluble alkali metal salt (e.g. indigo dye).

Sodium dithionite can also be used for water treatment, gas purification, cleaning, and stripping. It has also been applied as a sulfonating agent. In addition to the textile industry, this compound is used in industries concerned with leather, foods, polymers, photography, and many others, often as a decolourising agent. It is even used domestically as a decoloring agent for white laundry, when it has been accidentally stained by way of a dyed item slipping into the high temperature washing cycle. It is usually available in 5 gram sachets termed hydrosulfite after the antiquated name of the salt.

Industrial chemistry

The main use of sodium nitrite is for the industrial production of organonitrogen compounds. It is a reagent for conversion of amines into diazo compounds, which are key precursors to many dyes, such as diazo dyes. Nitroso compounds are produced from nitrites. These are used in the rubber industry.

It is used in a variety of metallurgical applications, for phosphatizing and detinning.

Sodium nitrite is an effective corrosion inhibitor and is used as an additive in industrial greases, as an aqueous solution in closed loop cooling systems, and in a molten state as a heat transfer medium.
