Phosphoric acid or orthophosphoric acid is a common inorganic acid. It is a medium-strong acid with a chemical formula of H3PO4 and a molecular weight of 97.994. It is not easy to volatilize, not easy to decompose, and almost non-oxidizing. It has acid versatility and is a weak ternary acid. Its acidity is weaker than hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and nitric acid, but stronger than acetic acid and boric acid. It can be obtained by dissolving phosphorus pentoxide in hot water. Orthophosphoric acid is obtained by treating apatite with sulfuric acid in the industry.

Phosphoric acid is easily deliquescent in the air. Heating will lose water to get pyrophosphoric acid, and further lose water to get metaphosphoric acid. Phosphoric acid is mainly used in pharmaceutical, food, fertilizer, and other industries, including as rust inhibitors, food additives, dental and orthopedics, EDIC corrosive, electrolyte, flux, dispersant, industrial corrosive, fertilizer raw material, and component household cleaning products. It can also be used as a chemical reagent. Phosphate is a nutrient for all life forms.

All three hydrogens are acidic to varying degrees and can be lost from the molecule as H+ ions (protons). When all three H+ ions are removed, the result is an orthophosphate ion PO43−, commonly called "phosphate". Removal of one or two protons gives dihydrogen phosphate ion H2PO−4 and the hydrogen phosphate ion HPO2−
4, respectively. Orthophosphoric acid also forms esters, called organophosphates.

Chemical name: Phosphoric acid
Alias: Orthophosphoric acid

 Application:

1)Agriculture: phosphoric acid is the raw material for the production of important phosphate fertilizer (calcium superphosphate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, etc.) and feed nutrient (calcium dihydrogen phosphate).

2)Industrial: phosphoric acid is an important chemical raw material. Its main functions are as follows:

a) Treat the metal surface and form insoluble phosphate film on the metal surface to protect the metal from corrosion.

b) Mixed with nitric acid as a chemical polishing agent to improve the finish of the metal surface.

c) Phosphate ester is the raw material for the production of washing products and pesticides.

d) Raw materials for the production of phosphorus-containing flame retardants.

3)Food: phosphoric acid is one of the food additives. As a sour agent and yeast nutrient in food, coke contains phosphoric acid. Phosphate is also an important food additive and can be used as a nutritional enhancer.

4)Medicine: phosphoric acid can be used to prepare phosphorus-containing drugs, such as glycerol, sodium phosphate, etc.

Usage of  Phosphoric Acid

1. The important intermediate products of the fertilizer industry.

2. For the production of high concentrations of phosphate and compound fertilizer

3. The raw materials of phosphoester and phosphate used in soap, detergent, metal surface treatment agents, food additives, feed additives, and water treatment agents.

4. The raw materials of phosphate fertilizer.
