Methyl methacrylate (MMA) is an organic compound with the formula CH2=C(CH3)COOCH3. This colorless liquid, the methyl ester of methacrylic acid (MAA), is a monomer produced on a large scale for the production of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA).
Methyl Methacrylate is a methyl ester of methacrylic acid. Methyl methacrylate is a reactive resin, and the polymerized form is used as cement in dentistry, orthopaedic surgery and ophthalmology. The monomer form of this agent has relaxation effect on smooth muscle systemically, which might be a result of nitric oxide-mediated response.
Methyl methacrylate monomer appears as a clear colorless liquid. Slightly soluble in water and floats on water. Vapors heavier than air. Vapors irritate the eyes and respiratory system. Containers must be heavily insulated or shipped under refrigeration. An inhibitor such as hydroquinone, hydroquinone methyl ester and dimethyl t-butylphenol is added to keep the chemical from initiating polymerization. The chemical may polymerize exothermically if heated or contaminated with strong acid or base. If the polymerization takes place inside a container, the container may rupture violently. Used to make plastics.
The principal application, consuming approximately 75% of the MMA, is the manufacture of polymethyl methacrylate acrylic plastics (PMMA). Methyl methacrylate is also used for the production of the co-polymer methyl methacrylate-butadiene-styrene (MBS), used as a modifier for PVC. Another application is as cement used in total hip replacements as well as total knee replacements. Used as the "grout" by orthopedic surgeons to make the bone inserts fix into bone, it greatly reduces post-operative pain from the insertions but has a finite lifespan. T
ypically the lifespan of methylmethacrylate as bone cement is 20 years before revision surgery is required. Cemented implants are usually only done in elderly populations that require more immediate short term replacements. In younger populations, cementless implants are used because their lifespan is considerably longer.] Also used in fracture repair in small exotic animal species using internal fixation.
MMA is a raw material for the manufacture of other methacrylates. These derivatives include ethyl methacrylate (EMA), butyl methacrylate (BMA) and 2-ethyl hexyl methacrylate (2-EHMA). Methacrylic acid (MAA) is used as a chemical intermediate as well as in the manufacture of coating polymers, construction chemicals and textile applications.
Wood can be impregnated with MMA and polymerized in situ to produce a stabilized product.
Application:
1. Used for manufacturing plexiglass, coatings, lubricating oil additives, wood infiltrating agent, paper polish, etc.
2. Methyl methacrylate is not only a kind of organic chemical raw material, but also can be used as a chemical product directly. Sulfamic acid, also known as amidosulfonic acid, amidosulfuric acid, aminosulfonic acid, sulphamic acid and sulfamidic acid, is a molecular compound with the formula H3NSO3. This colourless, water-soluble compound finds many applications. Sulfamic acid melts at 205 °C before decomposing at higher temperatures to water, sulfur trioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen.
1.Cleaning agent
Sulfamic acid is used as an acidic cleaning agent, sometimes pure or as a component of proprietary mixtures, typically for metals and ceramics. It is frequently used for removing rust and limescale, replacing the more volatile and irritating hydrochloric acid, which is however cheaper. It is often a component of householddescaling agents, for example, Lime-A-Way Thick Gel contains up to 8% sulfamic acid and pH 2 - 2.2, or detergents used for removal of limescale. When compared to most of the common strong mineral acids, sulfamic acid has desirable water descaling properties, low volatility, low toxicity. It forms water-soluble salts of calcium and ferric iron.
Importantly, sulfamic acid is preferable to use in household in comparison to hydrochloric acid for its intrinsic safety. If erroneously mixed with hypochlorite based products such as bleach, it does not form chlorine gas, where the most common acids would; the reaction (neutralization) with NH3, produces a salt as depicted in the section above.
It also finds applications in the industrial cleaning of dairy and brew-house equipment. Although it is considered less corrosive than hydrochloric acid, corrosion inhibitors are often added to commercial cleansers of which it is a component. Some of its domestic use, e.g. Easy-Off, for descaling include home coffee and espresso equipment and in denture cleaners.

Silver polishing
According to the label on the consumer product, the silver cleaning product TarnX contains thiourea, a detergent, and sulfamic acid.
Application:
As a bleaching agent. The catalysis of heavy metal ions in the bleaching liquid can be reduced or eliminated, so that the quality of the bleaching liquid can be guaranteed, and the oxidation degradation of metal ions to fiber can be reduced. Also can prevent the fiber peeling reaction, improve pulp strength, whiteness. In application, it should not be put directly into the bleaching liquid, but be dissolved in water first and then into the bleaching liquid. Sulfamic acid is a kind of solid unitary inorganic acid, which can also be regarded as monamide, sulfonamide and amine sulfonic acid of sulfuric acid.
It is a monoamide sulphate compound, which is an important fine chemical due to its double functional groups of amino and sulfonic acid, which can carry out various chemical reactions. Catalyst for synthesis of urea - formaldehyde resin. It is also used as a herbicide, fireproofing agent, softener for paper and textiles, cleaner for metals and ceramics. It is used as a nitrile remover in the production of azo dyes.
It is used as a stabilizer for chlorination and bleach in swimming pools and as a reference reagent for acid-base titration in analytical chemistry. It can be used as a reference reagent in analytical chemistry for acid-base titration. It is also used as a herbicide, fireproofing agent, softener for paper and textiles, a shrinkproof, bleach, softener for fibers, a cleanser for metals and ceramics, and a catalyst for the synthesis of urinaldehyde resins.

Sorbic acid and its salts, such as sodium sorbate, potassium sorbate, and calcium sorbate, are antimicrobial agents often used as preservatives in food and drinks to prevent the growth of mold, yeast, and fungi. In general the salts are preferred over the acid form because they are more soluble in water, but the active form is the acid. The optimal pH for the antimicrobial activity is below pH 6.5. Sorbates are generally used at concentrations of 0.025% to 0.10%. Adding sorbate salts to food will, however, raise the pH of the food slightly so the pH may need to be adjusted to assure safety. It is found in foods such as cheeses and breads.

Applications
1, In the chemical industry is the manufacture of chemical fertilizers, inorganic, synthetic fiber, dyes, medicines and food industry's raw materials.
2, In the oil industry for refining petroleum products.
3, In the defense industry, used in the manufacture of explosives, poisons, such as Smoke.
4, in the metallurgical industry for smelting pickling.
5, In the textile industry for dyeing and bleaching, and so on.
Useage
It can be used to manufacture fertilizer, medicine, explosive, pigment, detergent, battery, etc. It is also widely used in oil purification, metal smelting and dye industry. It is often used as chemical reagent, dehydrating agent and sulfonating agent in organic synthesis.
.Application
In the production process of petroleum products such as gasoline lubricating oil used in the petroleum industry, concentrated sulfuric acid refining is required to remove sulfur compounds and unsaturated hydrocarbons. Sulfuric acid is about 24kg per ton of crude oil refining, and 31kg per ton of diesel refining is required for the preparation of activated clay used in the petroleum industry, which also consumes a lot of sulfuric acid.
Used in the dye industry barely a dye (or its intermediates) preparation does not need to use sulfuric acid azo dye intermediates in the preparation of the need for sulfonation reaction, the preparation of aniline dyes intermediates to nitration reaction, both are need to use a large amount of sulfuric acid or fuming sulfuric acid so some dye factory is equipped with sulphuric acid workshop, to meet the needs.
Many pesticides are used in the production of pesticides with sulfuric acid as raw materials, such as copper sulfate, zinc sulfate can be used as plant fungicide, thallium sulfate can be used as a raticide, ferrous sulfate can be used as the most common insecticides, such as 1059 emulsion (45%) and 1605 emulsion (45%) production of sulfuric acid.
Industrial cleaning agent
Sulfuric acid is used in large quantities by the iron and steelmaking industry to remove oxidation, rust, and scaling from rolled sheet and billets prior to sale to the automobile and major appliances industry.[citation needed] Used acid is often recycled using a spent acid regeneration (SAR) plant. These plants combust spent acid[clarification needed] with natural gas, refinery gas, fuel oil or other fuel sources. This combustion process produces gaseous sulfur dioxide (SO2) and sulfur trioxide (SO3) which are then used to manufacture "new" sulfuric acid. SAR plants are common additions to metal smelting plants, oil refineries, and other industries where sulfuric acid is consumed in bulk, as operating a SAR plant is much cheaper than the recurring costs of spent acid disposal and new acid purchases.
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) can be added to sulfuric acid to produce piranha solution, a powerful but very toxic cleaning solution with which substrate surfaces can be cleaned. Piranha solution is typically used in the microelectronics industry, and also in laboratory settings to clean glassware.
Domestic uses
Sulfuric acid at high concentrations is frequently the major ingredient in acidic drain cleaners which are used to remove grease, hair, tissue paper, etc. Similar to their alkaline versions, such drain openers can dissolve fats and proteins via hydrolysis. Moreover, as concentrated sulfuric acid has a strong dehydrating property, it can remove tissue paper via dehydrating process as well. Since the acid may react with water vigorously, such acidic drain openers should be added slowly into the pipe to be cleaned.
Catalyst
Sulfuric acid is used for a variety of other purposes in the chemical industry. For example, it is the usual acid catalyst for the conversion of cyclohexanone oxime to caprolactam, used for making nylon. It is used for making hydrochloric acid from salt via the Mannheim process. Much H2SO4 is used in petroleum refining, for example as a catalyst for the reaction of isobutane with isobutylene to give isooctane, a compound that raises the octane rating of gasoline (petrol). Sulfuric acid is also often used as a dehydrating or oxidizing agent in industrial reactions, such as the dehydration of various sugars to form solid carbon.
Industrial production of chemicals
The major use for sulfuric acid is in the "wet method" for the production of phosphoric acid, used for manufacture of phosphate fertilizers. In this method, phosphate rock is used, and more than 100 million tonnes are processed annually. This raw material is shown below as fluorapatite, though the exact composition may vary. This is treated with 93% sulfuric acid to produce calcium sulfate, hydrogen fluoride (HF) and phosphoric acid. The HF is removed as hydrofluoric acid. The overall process can be represented as:
Ammonium sulfate, an important nitrogen fertilizer, is most commonly produced as a byproduct from coking plants supplying the iron and steel making plants. Reacting the ammonia produced in the thermal decomposition of coal with waste sulfuric acid allows the ammonia to be crystallized out as a salt (often brown because of iron contamination) and sold into the agro-chemicals industry.
Another important use for sulfuric acid is for the manufacture of aluminium sulfate, also known as paper maker's alum. This can react with small amounts of soap on paper pulp fibers to give gelatinous aluminium carboxylates, which help to coagulate the pulp fibers into a hard paper surface. It is also used for making aluminium hydroxide, which is used at water treatment plants to filter out impurities, as well as to improve the taste of the water. Aluminium sulfate is made by reacting bauxite with sulfuric acid:

Stearic acid is a saturated fatty acid with an 18-carbon chain. The IUPAC name is octadecanoic acid. It is a waxy solid and its chemical formula is C17H35CO2H. Its name comes from the Greek word στέαρ "stéar", which means tallow. The salts and esters of stearic acid are called stearates. As its ester, stearic acid is one of the most common saturated fatty acids found in nature following palmitic acid. The triglyceride derived from three molecules of stearic acid is called stearin.

Stearic acid is one of several main long-chain fatty acids that make up oils and fats. It exists in animal fats, oils and some vegetable oils in the form of glycerides. Stearic acid is obtained by hydrolysis of these oils. Stearic acid is a kind of fatty acid that exists widely in nature. It has the chemical properties of general carboxylic acid. Almost all fats and oils contain stearic acid with varying content. The content of stearic acid is higher in animal fat, such as tallow. Up to 24%, the content of vegetable oil is less, tea oil is 0.8%, palm oil is 6%, but the content of cocoa butter is as high as 34%.

Soaps, cosmetics, detergents
Stearic acid is mainly used in the production of detergents, soaps, and cosmetics such as shampoos and shaving cream products. Soaps are not made directly from stearic acid, but indirectly by saponification of triglycerides consisting of stearic acid esters. Esters of stearic acid with ethylene glycol (glycol stearate and glycol distearate) are used to produce a pearly effect in shampoos, soaps, and other cosmetic products. They are added to the product in molten form and allowed to crystallize under controlled conditions. Detergents are obtained from amides and quaternary alkylammonium derivatives of stearic acid.
Lubricants, softening and release agents
In view of the soft texture of the sodium salt, which is the main component of soap, other salts are also useful for their lubricating properties. Lithium stearate is an important component of grease. The stearate salts of zinc, calcium, cadmium, and lead are used to soften PVC. Stearic acid is used along with castor oil for preparing softeners in textile sizing. They are heated and mixed with caustic potash or caustic soda. Related salts are also commonly used as release agents, e.g. in the production of automobile tires. As an example, it can be used to make castings from a plaster piece mold or waste mold, and to make a mold from a shellacked clay original. In this use, powdered stearic acid is mixed in water and the suspension is brushed onto the surface to be parted after casting. This reacts with the calcium in the plaster to form a thin layer of calcium stearate, which functions as a release agent.
Niche uses
Being inexpensive, nontoxic, and fairly inert, stearic acid finds many niche applications Stearic acid is used as a negative plate additive in the manufacture of lead-acid batteries. It is added at the rate of 0.6 g per kg of the oxide while preparing the paste. It is believed to enhance the hydrophobicity of the negative plate, particularly during dry-charging process. It also reduces the extension of oxidation of the freshly formed lead (negative active material) when the plates are kept for drying in the open atmosphere after the process of tank formation. As a consequence, the charging time of a dry uncharged battery during initial filling and charging (IFC) is comparatively lower, as compared to a battery assembled with plates which do not contain stearic acid additive. Fatty acids are classic components of candle-making. Stearic acid is used along with simple sugar or corn syrup as a hardener in candies.
